This exact one, it looks so sleek and low with those wheels.

I have a friend with an XJ similar to that, she seems okay with it.

No major problems?

Great, until something breaks. There's a little old lady who brings hers in almost every week for some sort of repair. Of course it's probably pretty high mileage.

0% unreliable. if you are driving it, its running, therefor perfectly reliable.

heard nothing happening, oddly. She drives it about 20 KM to work. Last time I saw it, it was running well. Only issue is that the 'new' paintjob is getting chipped away, but that is due to the shop not doing a good job.

Do it. That generation XJ might be the best looking big sedan in modern history.
Besides, if it does 'splode you can always just stick an LS into it and turn it into a Draguar.

I fully agree, especially in Centenary Edition flavor.

Not too bad I think. If it's the 4.0l then they had issues with a plastic timing belt tensioner or something like that, but replace it with a metal one from the 4.2l and you're golden (should have been done if it's ever gone past a major service).
The rest of the car is pretty much proven components. The auto is a GM unit I think that's been used in tons of things. The rear suspension is the same unit developed from when the XJ40 came out in '86 so all the bugs have had ages to have been sorted out. The diff is an even older design and has been massively overbuilt for the power put through it. I know, I've been replacing the one in my '40 and it's bloody heavy. Something approaching 50kg dry.
Oh, and as it's a post-Ford car build quality is up and the electrics should be at the very least on par with anything else from that era.
I say do it :)

Hadn't they advanced to the ZF box by the? I thought the old GM one was from the XJ6 era.

Huh, I thought they went from ZF to GM. Shall do some research...

Right, the standard 6-cyl models had ZF 'boxes. The beefier versions (V12s and supercharged XJRs) used GM 'boxes.

dont think we got the centenary edition here in the states. but if its at all similar to the xjr-100 we did get, than definitely pick it up.
theyre beautiful, powerful, luxurious and rare.
closest youd get to competition in those three categories from same era is a 2002 740i sport. and these were a notch below in all categories.

I tend to shamelessly test drive any XJ of that generation that shows up on local lots. I'd love an XJR, but the Centenary Edition sure is pretty.

Buy it and drive it for a short period to get the itch out of your system but sell it quickly to hedge the risk of fiery electronics failure.

I'd probably drive it for long, so comfy and nice.

I need to consider so many things, but I might end up with one in the end. Fixing the Citroens left me with not the best financial scenario and the S8 is a bit out of my budget now. But these beauties are right in there, and very low miles.

I think it is a bit more powerful, but indeed beautiful and luxurious.

I might need to make some blood (oil) sacrifices to please him.

Mine would have at max 30k miles.

I will provide some oil for you to sacrifice to him. We shall create a shrine to Lucas.
